Goals and aspirations for 2025

Alright! It’s New Year’s Eve Eve. 2025 is almost upon us, along with all that it shall bring.

While there’s a lot of stuff coming that I’m super not-thrilled about, I recognize that there are things in the world I have control over, and there are things I don’t.

So, in 2025, my plan is to focus on what I can control.

To that end, I have a lot of big plans and ideas, related to my business, activism, artistry, and more.

As this space is for my career and artistic endeavors, here are a few things I plan to focus on this year in those spaces:

Work On Camera More

Okay, I know that “more” isn’t exactly a quantifiable amount – I’m all about quantifiable progress – but this intention represents an overall shift in focus and a reallocation of energy, rather than planting a goalpost.

I moved to LA in 2003 to pursue TV and film, and I did a lot of on-camera work before the economy crashed in 2008. After that, my focus drifted to the stage (and what a long, strange trip that’s been, let me tell you).

In 2018, I decided to renew my focus on on-camera work, and started making steady progress towards that goal. It honestly looked like 2020 was going to be my year.

Suffice to say I didn’t give up on my screen career. It’s just been hobbled and sidelined by pandemics, strikes, and other disasters outside of my control. During this time, I drifted back to the stage, a safe, familiar place for me.

Well, if I’m ever going to make this career happen, I’ve got to get back on camera. So hey, it’s all back on the table – practice self-tapes, graduate/AFI films, self-produced projects. It’s time to start working the on-camera muscles again. So why not start with…

A promotional image for the play 'Three Can Keep a Secret' by Gregory Crafts, directed by Richard Piatt. The image features a woman in a satin dress holding a wine glass with a confident expression. Positive reviews and quotes appear on the image, including: 'being able to participate in the story made me feel just that more invested in it,' 'a GREAT show IN GENERAL, and a PERFECT one for FRINGE,' 'WELL-WRITTEN and FUN,' and 'Itā€™s a MUST-SEE.' The logo of 'Gia On The Move - Highly Recommended' is in the top left corner, and a QR code is in the bottom right corner.

Three Can Keep A Secret

In April, I’m bringing my play, Three Can Keep a Secret to the 2025 New York City Fringe Festival. We’ll be performing at The Wild Project from April 15th-20th. This show was a big hit at the 2024 Hollywood Fringe Festival, and I think it will do well in New York, too.

And yeah, I realize that the first acting project I have lined up for myself after that big speech about doing more on-camera work has me right back on the stage. Exactly where I said I didn’t want to be. Yes, I promise I hear myself as I’m saying this stuff. I promise there’s a method to the madness.

See, once we’re back from New York, the plan is to shoot the show as a featurette (or, more accurately, a series of interactive shorts) this spring, and hopefully hit the film festival circuit in either the fall this year, or early next year.

Finally, we’re planning on bringing the show to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August (yes, another stage run, but this is a big one). We have agreed to terms with a venue, and at this point I’m just waiting on the contract.

Once those productions are done, I’m going to shop the script around to my publishers, and perhaps turn my focus back to other projects that have languished, such as…

The Monstrodyssey

Fingers crossed on cracking the code on a satisfying second act of my philosophical high-fantasy epic musical, and to a workshop reading!

Some smaller, more easily trackable goals:

  • Host quarterly writing retreats
  • Dedicate 4 hours a week to writing
  • Take UCB Improv 201
  • Walk 10,000 steps a day
  • Try new keto-friendly recipes
  • Post at least 4 blogs a month here
  • Post to my Instagram once a day
  • Become fluent in Spanish
  • Read 26 books

I think these are all achievable and I’m looking forward to making them happen. Alright, that’s what I’ve got planned for this year! Well, some of it, at least. You’ll hear about the rest as soon as I’m ready to share it, I think. šŸ˜‰

What about you? What are your goals and aspirations for 2025? Let me know in the comments below.
