Hey, how ya doin’?
Been a minute since I last inhabited the skin of my boy Michael “Moose” Mulligan. We had a lot of fun last summer, crushing a run at the 2024 Hollywood Fringe Festival – two award nominations, a Critic’s Pick and a one-performance extension. Not bad!
Since then, though, I have to admit I’ve been feeling pretty down. When you work on a show that’s a lot of fun, and you’re surrounded by wonderful people who are also incredible collaborators, you never want it to end.
That’s what last year’s production was for me; great people, great fun, and over way too soon.
Good news is, I’m a grown-ass man who can my my own decisions, and I have decided that this journey isn’t over yet! Matter of fact, I’m going to dedicate the whole year to this show.
That’s right! 2025’s gonna be…
The Year of the Secret
…
Okay, I’ll keep workshopping that one.
But yeah, this year we’re not just bringing the show back. We’re doing it bigger and better. Instead of doing one limited run in Hollywood, we’re taking the show to the NYC Fringe and post up at The Wild Project for a week in April, then hop the pond in August for a week at TheSpaceUK for the legendary Edinburgh Fringe!
AND we’re going to shoot the movie, probably in May. We have a location locked down, the team is on board, and I’m going to finish the movie version of the script on my retreat up into the mountains this weekend.
Edited on 1/19 to add: Hey y’all, Future Greg here. I’m currently up in the mountains right now on my writing retreat with a bunch of fellow scribes, and I’m working on the film script. It’s been a very productive weekend and I think I’ll actually have a finished draft tonight or tomorrow.
And hey, check out the view!
I ain’t mad at that.
More updates coming soon. Future Greg, out!
Where was I? Oh right. Of course there are a number of questions you have to ask yourself when you take on a project of this scale. Important questions like:
Is this ambitious?
Of course. It’s not worth doing unless it’s ambitious.
Is it even possible?
Absolutely.
Will it be expensive?
Most certainly.
Will I need to do some fundraising?
Oh yeah.
Is it really a movie if it’s interactive media, or would that make it a video series? And if it’s the latter, will film festivals even take it?
I’m not sure. But we’re gonna find out.
Do you have a plan for after it’s all over?
Of course! When all is said and done, we’ll put the movie on the festival circuit, and I’m going to put a packet together for my publishers. My goal is to give other actors the opportunity to fill Moose’s shoes, so hopefully they’ll get to have as much fun as I have with this quirky Tarantino-esque interactive thriller.
And then next year, I’ll pick a new project to focus on. Maybe start something new. Maybe finish something that’s been in development hell. Maybe revisit another old favorite that hasn’t been touched in a few years. Who knows?
One thing I can tell you for certain, though, is that I’m not stopping anytime soon. It’s not just Onward and Upward anymore. It’s Bigger and Better.
Let’s go.
About Three Can Keep A Secret, a darkly funny new thriller for the stage by Gregory Crafts
It was supposed to be an easy score. Whack the mark. Stage the scene. Take the money. Retire to Cabo.
That’s how they planned it, at least.
But for poor Moose and Sonny, a really bad night is only just beginning.
Three Can Keep A Secret is an award-nominated stage play by critically acclaimed playwright Gregory Crafts (Friends Like These, Super Sidekick: The Musical). This darkly funny and twisted interactive crime thriller allows you, the audience, to choose how the story proceeds while the anti-hero protagonists attempt to get away with murder. Literally. With multiple decision points throughout, no two performances will be the same.
