Just got back to LA after spending another lovely weekend up in Pine Mountain Club. I love our quarterly Theatre Unleashed Writers’ Den Writing Retreats. It’s so nice to get out of town for a few days, leave all of our normal routine concerns behind, and focus exclusively on creation.
We had a great group this weekend: eight writers working on a variety of projects, from new plays, to film scripts, to TV pilots, to new songs, to a travel memoir. Eclectic projects for an eclectic group.
Personally, I split my time between struggling to debug a web site I’ve been working on for far, far too long (I’m almost done, Wendy. I promise!) and researching the sordid history of cryptocurrency and its related scams and scandals for a short dramatic web series I’m developing. If you’ve never fucked with cryptocurrency, let me tell you, it’s one hell of a rabbit hole.
I’ve now watched every video on Coffeezilla’s YouTube channel.
As always, a weekend away seemed far too short. By the time I felt like I found my momentum, it was already late Saturday night and I had to head back to LA first thing Sunday morning. I think for the next retreat in July I may book an extra night again. Sure, it’s a little tougher to sneak away for a three-day weekend, but it’s totally worth it when I can get into the creative rhythm sooner and stick with it longer.
Pretty sure we were at about the max capacity for this house though. The only way we’ll be able to bring more people next time is if we have more couples attend together.
Or I suppose folks could make new friends while they’re up there. Who are we to judge?
Huge thanks to Lisa, Becca, Laser, Jim, John, Wendy, and Brandie for joining me this time around! I’m already dreaming about the next one.
